Science generally admits that it doesn't know the truth. On some things science feels it is pretty sure, but no one will go so far as to say they've discovered an absolute truth. What science discovers is facts. Science uses these facts to guess at truth. Then they try to disprove their guess by gathering more facts and seeing if their guess holds true.
God is not a scientist. He has no personal use for the scientific method. He knows everything; he understands everything. With this limitless knowledge available, why would we not ask for His input? Why wouldn't we put more stock in His answer than we do in science or opinion? When it comes to truth, there is no greater source.

On the surface it seems as though it would be easier to act if we had a pure knowledge of the consequences of every action. The term prophet is used in more than one way. In its most fundamental sense, a prophet is anyone who delivers the words of God as he received them from God. He is a mouthpiece for God on the earth. Our ability to make rational decisions is limited by how much information we can gather and process within the amount of time we have available. We can only process so much in our minds at one time. So, we estimate; we guess; we assume; we do the best we can. Few decisions we make can be considered purely rational. Telescopes of the highest quality can see light from far, far away. Galaxies and other heavenly bodies previously unknown can now be seen. Some scientists speculated that since they could see nothing in certain places, there was nothing else to be seen. By making the telescopes more sensitive to different kinds of light, parts of the sky that had been blank filled with stars and galaxies. Before the Fall, Adam and Eve were in a state of innocence, meaning they knew neither joy nor pain. Though the lack of joy is undesirable, the blessing of ignorance is good: no pain. Because of the Fall, we, like the Savior Himself, gain knowledge one step at a time. Our ignorance methodically melts away. Faith implies that you don't have a perfect knowledge of something. While so many in the world today insist on fully understanding every point of doctrine before they will accept it, the Lord's way is different. Jesus Christ told Peter: "Blessed art thou Simon Bar-Jonas, for flesh and blood hath not revealed this unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven." |
