A personal relationship with the Savior is certainly important. Why then did He teach us to pray to the Father rather than to Himself? Can we have a relationship with someone we don't talk to?
Relationships aren't built on words alone. More efficacious ways of building a relationship involve struggling together toward a worthy cause. Mutual loyalty, exemplified love, and consistent service over time are a few examples of methods that build strong relationships. Talk can be a good thing, but the Lord warned against those who talk but do not act. When we have truly built a relationship with our Father or with the Savior, we must have a relationship with both of them, for coming to know One of Them is to know the Other.
